San Juan Island...Is Calling You

San Juan Island is our favorite of all the inlands in the San Juan Archipelago. It's the most populated island, however, there's many romantic options to choose from. You can mix with the locals in town or you can venture off into some remote areas. The island has many opportunities for romantic exploration.

San Juan Island is assessable by the popular Washington State Ferry System, private boat or small aircraft. Boarding the world's most scenic ferry ride from Anacortes, you'll venture for about an hour and a half through some of the most spectacular waters on the planet. It's truly remarkable how you'll have the opportunity to relax aboard the ferry, view picturesque sights from the large picture windows, and participate in breathtaking scenes. We're at "awe" even thinking about it.

If you're looking for quick access to San Juan Island, perhaps have a limited time schedule or you want to experience the extraordinary views from above, you can contact us regarding San Juan Air Charter, we'll fill you in with the options. This is also a great romantic idea, depart Seattle and arrive at Roche Harbor for a splendid evening meal, then return back to Seattle. What a memorable experience!

If you're traveling by ferry, your point of entry to the island is Friday Harbor. This is a busy quaint village in the summer months. In fact, returning back to the mainland with your car can sometimes require a very patient wait of several hours. Plan your trip accordingly, Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends are especially busy.

Friday Harbor has a streak of business to it; however, it's all relative...this is not New York! This is a slow-paced paradise, even with tourists roaming the streets, the harbors swamped with boats and ferries bulging full; the ambiance of the island encourages a leisure setting.

You'll find most of the facilities located at Friday Harbor; restaurants, groceries, hardware, and lodging. The lodging in Friday Harbor is quaint, some of the places small and inviting. If you're looking to spice up your romantic time, head over to Roche Harbor, the accommodations there are exquisite.

The Roche Harbor Resort is just that, a resort. If you arrive by private boat you can tie at the guest moorage dock. There's water and electricity to meet your needs. You can also arrive by plane and land at the adjacent airstrip. You'll encounter a brief walk to the resort. Or fly in by floatplane, disembark and you'll be a t the resort within seconds. And of course, drive your vehicle and park at the front door.

If you have the desire to get to Roche Harbor, the Hotel de Haro will accommodate you. This beautiful luxury historic hotel is the center piece of harbor activity offering fine romantic vacations for both the boaters and land-lovers. San Juan Island is full of exploring possibilities. We've literally spent weeks exploring the island. The southern portion of the Island hosts the former historical American Camp and to the north is the Historic Park, The English Camp. Both camps are of historical precedence for the Islands; however, they now make for the perfect area to explore and enjoy your leisure time together.

We particularly like the American Camp, it's more spread-out amongst grassy fields and offers some wonderful secluded beaches. You'll simply follow the paths wondering around the camp, head towards the water and you'll stumble on these wondrous gems of beaches. We've had many quaint picnics along this stretch of shoreline, you'll love it!

We'd like to hear about your times on San Juan Island contact us.
