Menorca...Wants You
Menorca is the least populated of the Balearic Islands off the coast
of Spain in the Mediterranean. The island is essentially a "Biosphere
Reserve"; therefore, much of the island is preserved. It does make for an
exciting romantic setting, you can literally find secluded beaches.
If you're the party-goer, Menorca is NOT for you. There simply isn't
the night-life that the other Balearic Islands offer, what you get instead is
pristine solitude. You can find untouched coves of beauty just waiting for
you; however, you may have to display a little adventurous activity to get to
some of them. That's the romantic beauty about this island, the beauty
will beckon you onward.
Menorca is a bit wetter than the other islands, and perhaps a bit colder too.
During the off-season a chilling wind can blow out of the north. But,
over-all you can always manage to find a leeward hideout.
Arrival...
You can slip into Menorca by way of ferry or air. The ferries
depart from the mainland and Palma de Mallorca. Air travel is from the
mainland and the some of the other Balearic Islands. Check the
schedules
through our Travel Network as they can change departure points to Menorca, times
and destinations.
Activities...
You can dwell in complete solitude or run yourself busy with bustling
activities from sailing to diving. A lounge around a secluded beach is
relentless for the impatient person, but if you're one who wants peace and
quiet, you'll find it here on Menorca. You can also fancy yourself to some
horseback riding, this is great fun and offers a unique exploratory opportunity.
The small towns typically host some kind of festival. During the summer
months you can find a host of small festivals celebrating various historical
times. One in particular is the Festa de Sant Joan. It's in the last
week of June, the town of Ciutadella. Some of the local festivals date
back to the Middle Ages, if you're one interested in history, you'll love these
unique festivals. Check out the Tourist Office, 971-36-37-90.
Beaches...
The beach is a typical highlight when visiting any of the Balearic Islands.
The better beaches are located on the southern portion of Menorca.
Granted, there's more development along the southern coast than other parts of
the island but the resorts are appealing to the eye. In fact you may want
to stay at one of the resorts, they are relatively small and reflect a Moorish
style about them.
Santa Galdana is a great option yielding some English Pubs, mini-golf courses
and a fine beach. You'll find some trails that lead to other beach
destinations too.
