Formentera...The Least Developed

Formentera is the smallest and least populated of the Balearic Islands off the coast of Spain in the Mediterranean. It's a beautiful yet undeveloped island; however, during the busy summer months this little island gets busy.

Formentera is easily reached by taking a short boat ride from Ibiza. The island is relatively flat, makes for some great bicycling and walking adventures. Even during the busy tourist season, you can find a small secluded strip of beach to experience a romantic opportunity.

Attractions...

For the most part, Formentera is small, quaint and quiet. The best and foremost attractions are the beaches, the walks and bicycling. If you're visiting from Ibiza, rent a bicycle and gingerly cycle the island. There are a few archeological sites on the island too; however, for the most part, exploring the countryside by bicycle is remarkable. You can stop almost anywhere.

For those who do not want to bicycle, you can walk or rent a vehicle. Vehicle rentals are near the ferry dock. Also, stroll into the Tourist Office at La Savina, pick up a local map with some fantastic beaches, walking and bicycling options. You can call them too: 971-32-20-57.

There's not a lot of nightlife on the island. You'll likely find most of the nightlife at Es Pujols. Here, you'll find a strip of bars and restaurants.

Beaches...

The best beaches are located on the eastern and western sides of Formentera. About a mile-walk on a trail out of La Savina, you can find a pristine white-sand beach. You'll need to be in an adventurous mood to walk to this beach. You'll have to wade across a narrow flow of water to Illa s'Espalmador. This is a tiny inlet and you must be careful with the tide.

If you're one who enjoys going nude, there's some secluded beaches on the south coast, Platja de Migjorn. The shorelines are a bit rocky but it doesn't hinder removing any clothing.

Accommodations...

The island hosts a variety of hostels and small rentals. Most of the accommodations are booked during the summer months. You'll want to check out our Travel Network and pre-arrange for available lodging.

Comments...

Just like the other Balearic Island's, we recommend that you visit Formentera during the off-season. The island comes alive, not with people, but with its natural beauty.

During the off-summer season, you'll get the best travel rates and accommodations. Check out our Travel Network for accommodations and travel arrangements to Formentera, or and/or the Resources listed above, you'll be glad you did.
